Aurora Aksnes first musical memory was discovering a piano in her loft, and becoming fascinated by the music. Jan Oystein Aksnes and May-Britt Aksnes urged Aurora to pursue music. Not for an income or to pursue a hobby, but rather as a way to improve. Her first step was to compose the songs she wrote herself. Alongside Bjork, she cites Leonard Cohen as an influence. Her mom encouraged her to sing her music on stage, not to achieve fame, but rather to make others aware of how significant they are and what they could do to improve the world. Her first piano lessons began at age six and creating music when she was nine. It took until her 14th birthday that she told her parents. Aurora was not a goal. The singer says that she simply likes to compose songs. She claims that music is her most preferred way of feeling something.
